Hereditary
Ari Aster's 2018 horror movie "Hereditary" is one of the best horror movies not just of the 2010s but of all time. The long film takes its time to look Into the themes it's exploring instead of rushing them, as the slow psychological horror explores the themes of generational trauma, of secrets screeching from long ago echo into the current present and the future of the family. The movie deals with the occult and sacrifices but that's only a tool used to wheel the drive of ancestral issues that withhold generations to come, as the grandmother of the main family is within a cult using her children and her grandchildren as toys to perform the ritual their king and ruler of hell Paimon is waiting for so he'd be able to live inside a man's body. The poor choices of the grandmother affect our main character, her daughter, as her will to find a perfect host has lead to her husband's and son's death, which also was reflected in many mental issues possessing the family. The include of miniatures models of real places, people, and scenes done by the main character acts as a key to show that the family is living inside of already set destination and they're just a toy , they are inside of a model , a project, rooted decades ago. That's also highlighted through the movie's excellent cinematography, in addition to the scenes themselves as the things play out the grief of the family starts getting worse and in despair which fucks heavily with the viewer's brain. It's an excellently done psychological horror showing an excellent theme of generational trauma making one of the best horrors I've seen.
