fantasy & horror buff—give me compelling characters and magic, i’m sold.

why is this so fucking accurate to how the worst female friendships you’ll ever have truly are. the way celeste enraged me is insane. also, the movie’s message is to NOT BE A DAMN PEOPLE PLEASER.

i don’t understand the praise for this at all…. the entire first half of the movie is so lackluster that the second half can’t even make up for it. it’s so predictable in the most boring way. of *course* apple is the villain but she does literally nothing interesting until the last twenty minutes. like why did we underutilize her? the humor was not landing with me at all. the directing felt so amateur and weird, i felt like i was watching a really low budget movie. victoria pedretti and lili reinhart were the best part of the whole film. i loved cherry’s character and victoria’s performance, but lili/apple….? so WASTEDDD. ugh. i really wanted to like this but unfortunately i didn’t.

they don’t make movies like this anymore. *sobs.*

michael jackson is such a grand person that i don’t think any movie can truly do him, his talent, and his life justice, but this comes pretty close. jafaar genuinely surprised me with how well he did (and i already went into it expecting him to be great). i just wish we got to spend a little more time in certain eras of his life, slow it down and do a deep dive, but that would probably turn this into a 5 hour movie. overall, a really good biopic and now i’m putting all of his albums in my playlist for the foreseeable future.
