From the score, to the visuals, to the most down to earth, vivid, acting I have seen in a long while, Zao has once again reminded me why exactly I go to the cinema. Being a woman watching this film I can only feel camaraderie, in suffering, in motherhood, in grief. Hamlet is one of my favourite plays of all time and I have grown up with it. I read Hamnet only a few months ago despite having the book for years. A wonderful adaptation of an fantastic book. Everything you hear about the acting being phenomenal is true, yes Buckley is the standout but Mescal and all other characters are equally fully fleshed and I felt immersed from the beginning. To top it all off Richter brings such a phenomenal score for this. It’s not showy, it’s exactly what the film needs. I would see it again but I fear for my eyes (they hurt after crying so much). To start 2026 with such an amazing film it feels almost impossible to say it’s my favourite of the year. But I certainly don’t know what else could top it. I’ll have to wait and see.

Liked it way more than I thought I would as I’m not a fan of supernatural films. The music was great the acting was great. Some say the pacing is off but I found that it worked for me.

Watched with Seonaid. I adored pretty much every aspect of the film apart from the female lead… seriously unlikeable I don’t like romanticised cheating. They had some chemistry but barely any of the film focused on that at all so I didn’t root for them. Loved Hugh Grant and all his friends. Cried at the funeral eulogy. Overall a good, quintessentially British film, but kind of wish the American woman wasn’t a part of it.

Really enjoyed it. Watched with Matthew as he recommended it. I hadn’t quite grasped the dream yet- but once explained to me I appreciated the film more. I really enjoyed the more experimental shots. This is my first David Lynch and I’m excited to watch some more.
