The Work at Auxolith Corp is Mysterious and Important
*
*This was a pleasure to watch on opening night in theaters on Halloween. Tense, hilarious, violent, disgusting, philosophical, psychological, disturbing and so much more packaged into a 2 hour runtime.
The dialog is so sharp and witty. And while slower paced in the beginning, I genuinely enjoyed the slow burn tension that Yargos ignites. The movie is a powder keg, you just don’t know who or what will detonate. Is there even a bomb to begin with here?
Emma Stone was incredible in this. Genuinely wonderful acting all around.
And…the score. Beautiful stuff. Classical, operatic - reminiscent of Holst’s Planet Suite (which is very fitting here). Its over the top in all the right ways. Absurd in its grandioseness at all the right times, this film is totally a strong contender for best score this year.
And the nod to Fellini’s 8 1/2 was the cherry on top for me, when the black and white dream sequences came up and Teddy was holding his mom who was floating.
This will probably bump to a 4.5 on a second viewing which I will definitely be doing…
