Frankenhooker
frankenhooker
clearing my watchlist: movie no. 22
i wanted to like frankenhooker because its premise is so gloriously ridiculous, but the execution never quite lived up to the concept. the film leans heavily on shock value and over the top gore, yet the humour feels repetitive after the first half hour. what starts as an amusing parody of classic frankenstein stories quickly settles into a predictable cycle of cheap jokes and exaggerated performances.
to its credit, the practical effects are impressively inventive for a low budget horror comedy, and there’s an undeniable cult charm to the absurd premise. a few one liners genuinely land, and the film never pretends to be anything more sophisticated than b-movie entertainment.
unfortunately, the thin plot, one dimensional characters, and uneven pacing make it difficult to stay invested. by the finale, the novelty has worn off, leaving a film that’s more memorable for its outrageous concept than its actual quality. 2/5 ⭐️
