its fucking pretty ***"Bad luck isn't brought by broken mirrors, but by broken minds."*** the cinematography and colors absolutely carry this movie. The way this movie presents setting is what makes it beautiful. the entire time I felt a bit claustrophobic in a way which is what unsettled me rather than the actual plot. the story of this movie isn't really all that like I didn't really care for any of the characters and it isn't scary but the way it's shot is what makes it great. I still found the combination of ballet and witchcraft to be a cool concept but the way it was executed could've been better. this is a more visual story. i will watch the reboot at some point, hopefully the reboot can succeed at what this movie didn't.

its fucking weird i watched this a couple years ago, felt uncomfortable and disturbed and thought it was js some bs. but looking at it now it is artistic, still weird ofc but thats what makes it great. might rewatch but the colors in this movie are beautiful, i barely remember the plot so thats why it getting 3 stars but it might be 3.5-4 if i rewatch

it's fucking mournful. ***"It is God's will that we should all survive, at least that's what we should believe."*** I was about 9-10 years old when I first watched this. I ugly-cried then and it was probably because I wasn't really that educated on the Holocaust, anti-semitism, wars in general, etc. So watching this really hit me as a kid. 5 years later, gave it a rewatch and this movie still makes me pretty sad. this movie in a way felt immersive, it perfects setting. I liked how they shot characters and conversations up close and the neighborhood destruction widely and through the windows. the scene where Szpielman plays the piano for the solider was absolutely beautiful, I did not remember that from my first watch. and the ending where he plays in the orchestra is also perfect as it is shot in a warm tone representing freedom as the rest of the movie is a dull blue+gray. Adrien Brody is such a great actor.
