Hell yes I love where horror is right now. Ken Parsons and Curry Barker, both in their twenties making two of the most effective movies of the year. What struck me the most about Backrooms, similar to Obsession, is how both films brilliantly mask what they are truly about by disguising them as horror movies. With Obsession, it was talking about male entitlement, abusive relationships, assault and the taking of one's autonomy for the relationship we think we deserve. With Backrooms, Parsons is doing something very similar. I took the film as a warning. A warning for things we already see but is usually always pushed to the side. What happens when things like urbanization are taken too far. What happens when we build a nightmare we can't control? What happens when we can't take accountability and our only solution is an escapism that tears us apart? Is it better to live in the ordinary life or find something bigger than ourselves even if it means risking a fate we'll never truly understand? I'm am in awe of what Parsons has made. This is a stunning piece of art that never tries to be above or take a higher ground than the audience. There is this odd beauty in the world he has created. The rules he has created. I'll be honest I don't understand but I don't really think I want to. To bring Curry Barker back to the conversation I think this is something the two of them absolutely understand and bring out so effectively. What is unknown is more terrifying than anything we'll see. There is this lost beauty in the unknown that unfortunately I think audiences don't know how to take anymore. I love this film. I love that indie horror is thriving right now. Seeing two people in their twenties making two incredible movies is not only inspiring but promising for a certain future in indie cinema.

Pretty good movie to watch when you're coming down from anesthesia. I love these guys.

One of the most well casted movies ever. I mean every single person in this movie gives their all and genuinely looks like they were plucked off an older Spider Man comic strip. Also the movie is just a slapper too. Truly iconic.
