Antebellum
oh my fucking god WOW
ok tbh i have a lot to say about this movie cuz damn…man there’s just so many thoughts i have but
1) this movie really gave me an insight and honestly educated me on what horrid events would happen when black people were kept as slaves. as i am nb, i will never truly know what it’s like to be treated this way but as a poc, the discrimination that was shown in this film when the scenes were in present-day felt so relatable in a way.
2) some of the dialogues were written so well in my opinion, and they spoke at such large volumes. when the “owner” of ‘Eden’ was put into the shed, he said “we are everywhere and anywhere.” this stuck with me mainly because he was a racist and abusive piece of shit who needs to rot in hell and him saying that was somehow representing the fact that racism is infact everywhere and anywhere. there’s no escaping it. and as you soon learn at the end of the film, that infact all of this was happening in present day and they were all “renaacting” it, you soon learn that the quote is infact very true. from the beginning, you think that the main character is just having terrible dreams when infact it was all the truth and in present time.
3) my mind was absolutely blown when i found out it was all in a secluded area where renaactments happen. all of these people were practically kidnapped from the real word and possibly drugged to make them forget how they ended up there and made to believe they were in the past when infact the whites were just practically fooling them using this as an excuse to murder innocent black people? i was extremely confused when cellphones were starting to get used in the film, so i’m glad atleast this way the plotline got so much better and stronger.
after watching this film, i do have a few questions tho that were left unanswered:
1) that little girl from the elevator…who even was she? and how’d she get there
2) how did people from the outside world not know of this secluded place, Antebellum, where literal murders would take place? i mean there was a sign that said renaactment of the confederates and something bout them accepting credit cards therefore it must be somewhat known????
final thoughts: this movie genuinely just reminded me racism is always there and it’s never going to go away. it’ll always be apart of history and will continue to be a part of history. i’m just intrigued with the way the movie decided to portray this.
also white people suck. they r so fucked up🤬
