Holy Fuck
I notoriously never cry during movies. And I don’t say that in some edgy “I’m too cool to cry at the theatre” kind of way, I just generally don’t feel that type of emotional response when I watch things. I’ve never cried that while watching a film. Never ever.
Jessie Buckley started crying for her mother during birth and it was downhill from there. We all never really grow up, and hold that need for others so truly deep without us, that it can only come out in our most vulnerable moments. The depiction that love and grief are the same emotion experienced at different times. The raw need to be loved and to give it in return.
I went into this film with the lowest expectations - I generally don’t enjoy period pieces. But for this to go straight into my top four is unprecedented. I feel seen in womanhood. I know her. She is me.
