It’s been a little bit since I finished the movie. And at first I was a bit confused, no no I was really confused. Throughout the movie you see Callum’s themes of depression and escapism from the outside world, and you see him try to hide it from Sophie. And the way the movie was portrayed, I expected something sinister at the end, callum dying or something of the sorts, and the movie is Sophie looking back on it with fondness about her father, after an untimely death. But I think what the movie really is, as an older person, Sophie is realizing the struggles her father went through. Seeing that her father who loved her whole heartedly and deeply wanted nothing more but to give Sophie happiness, something that he struggled to obtain. I think Sophie was his one true spark in life, and after she left. It left him empty, the strobe lighting was done magnificently well. I love how the writers left the ending to the viewers, did callum succumb to the difficulties he faced? I think so. Nonetheless, this movie really did hit like a ton of bricks, it’s hard to put it into words as to how it makes you feel. All language is but a poor translation. I hope one day I can be as good as of a father as callum.
“Well, like... Sometimes at playtime, I look up at the sky and if I can see the Sun then... I think that the fact that we can both see the Sun, so even though we're not actually in the same place and we're not actually together... we kind of are in a way, you know? Like we're both underneath the same sky, so... kind of together.“
