Mulan

This is objectively one of the best movies out there. For the most part, it’s a perfect movie. I’ll start with what I don’t like since there’s next to nothing. Shang. Controversial, I know. But he is such an asshole. Like, he makes a big show out of not murdering Mulan, but then leaves her injured, alone, without food, and mostly naked in the snow. Like, she should’ve died. And then he doesn’t ever really apologize. Sure, he’s a great singer and nice to look at, but idk how he consistently gets ranked so high in all of those “ranking the Disney princes” lists. Also he’s a nepo baby.  But now onto the things I did like, because holy fuck that’s a long list. The music. Wow. Even though this has less songs than your average Disney musical, especially from the 90s, every song devoured. In particular, I love the scene of them singing “A Girl Worth Fighting For,” and cutting themselves off when they see the destroyed camp. After that, there aren’t any more songs as the movie shifts to a much darker tone. The comedy was also top tier. Whether it’s the Mulan getting traumatized by all the naked men bathing, Mushu biting Ling’s butt, Mushu accidentally destroying the Great Stone Dragon, or any of the other hilarious moments in the movie, there are definitely several scenes that make me laugh out loud. This is the kind of movie that every little girl needs. Proof that a girl can do anything a boy can do, and if she wants to, she can do it better.  Also random realization but do you think when Shang told Mulan to go home she was pissed and thought “could they have just told my dad to go home too?”
