Literally the cornerstone of modern cinema and probably has one of if not the best scores ever composed for a film.

There's nothing like British pride to keep you going , and to bring your ruin. Jolly good show lads!

Monumental epic , I saw the extended version and 3 hours and 38 minutes flew right by , technically masterful , there's no need for set design if you can just film in the forbidden city ,insanely immersive. Great period piece but at the same time also character driven , it's a topic that's just inherently interesting. My only quarrel was that it wasn't in chinese with subtitles , at times the english felt out of place , at the same time the empress was completely secondary to the plot and her storyline could have been explored further for a film with such a long runtime. All in all excellent film.

Religious fanaticism , domestic abuse , sexual assault, the porn industry , a cult, kung fu , kill Bill-esque fight scenes , domestic terrorism , gang violence and I haven't even touched the surface of how crazy this movie gets. It's a perfect mix of finding true love , reciting bible verses on a beach while classical music plays in the background , with slapstick comedy all wrapped up in a neat 4-hour package. It's truly something you have to see for yourself.
