I thought Nic Cage did a great performance and he only had two freak out scenes and that is pretty much a record for him. It’s a very meta film, Nic Cage plays Charlie Kaufman while Charlie Kaufman is writing the script. I got to admit it is quite confusing but when you understand what the films message is it makes it so much better! There were lots of great aspects to the film, the meta commentary, the way it has two movies in one. The first half is like how Charlie Kaufman usually makes a film and then the second half is like Charlie Kaufman mixed with a bit of Hollywood action since the film follows Charlie Kaufman’s unfinished script and his brother who makes a Hollywood blockbuster. The film is also very funny like I was saying before the second half of the film is also very funny as it makes fun of Hollywood tropes and cliches. Another great notable scene is when Charlie Kaufman goes to the script writing sort of class scene to become a better screen writer, and the guy who is presenting it is saying all these dumb rules about script writing like you shouldn’t do voiceover E.T.C., and then Charlie Kaufman makes a sort of statement about how what if a screen writer is showing how the characters don’t really learn a lesson they still act the same? And then the guy presenting goes insane saying how lots of people die and that people all change and all this stuff and then Charlie Kaufman starts to become kind of a sellout after that scene... This film is very complicated and not your normal kind of comedy but if you like Charlie Kaufman or if you are open minded, I would really recommend this film!
