Okay if you’ve watched black swan, this film honestly inspired that film and so many others!! This film is prescient because it examines the extreme parasocial relationship people have with their idols even before our current era of social media. It’s even more relevant today than it was in the 90s. It take a sharp look at what it means to be an idol and celebrity/purity culture (particular to Asian pop culture tbh), all while serving interesting imagery which has been copied over and over by western directors/photographers. But there’s also the nature of pop culture, film is by itself a self referential medium.

I like to complain people sleep on this and watch lalaland instead but tell me it didn’t inspire lalaland and I’ll tell you you’re delusional, yes I am fun at parties
