Adolescence
Such an important watch. Get past how technically gifted the cast and crew are. The camerawork is flawless, it isn’t there just to be a gimmick. Stephen Graham and more notably Owen Cooper are phenoms here - raw emotion. But it’s important.
We’re living in a dangerous world. Through the midst of a knife crime epidemic that affects thousands across the UK. Where anybody can find whatever they want with a single search. Parents are able to protect their children in the real world but are completely unaware to the extent of the threat of social media. Pornography, underage nudes, toxic masculinity, hate speech, racism, executions - this is all available whether you’re looking for it or not. In a world where Twitter is run by a nazi and the youth of the UK have been moulded by ‘role models’ like Andrew Tate, woman are treated like pieces of meat to be tossed around. Toxic masculinity is a norm for young men leading to a thriving male loneliness epidemic. Violence is desensitised, viewed as a joke or a threat rather than a serious offence. This all happens online when you think your kids safe in their room. People spend so much time providing for and protecting their kids only to hand them a phone and allow them to be influenced by anybody. They can’t do anymore.
Should be mandatory viewing for all schools, parents and young children alike.
