The Father
The Father subverts all expectations. Paced to perfection. A heartbreaking psychological thriller with an unreliable narrator. A breathtaking study into the effects losing your mind - a relatable premise to far too many. The film examines both the carer and the sufferer.
Cast is exceptional. Olivia Colman is moving, the audience constantly sympathetic. Anthony Hopkins is phenomenal, one of the best ever acting performances. “Who exactly am I?” is a devastating line.
Due to the film’s unreliable nature, the audience is never fully aware of what is truly happening only further immersing them into Anthony’s struggles. A touching score by Ludovico Einaudi.
