Jaws
Where do I even begin, another Spielberg banger. The main highlight of the film is the shark itself. And even though it has very little screen time, the shark is the embodiment of fear and dread. The whole town fears over this one animal that goes on a rampage for no reason whatsoever, just hungry for blood. And the shark barely appearing gives fear to the audience and the characters, because we and the characters don’t know when it will strike next. Then the boat, half the film is on one boat, with just three men. And it’s amazing how a little setting gives so much character. The sound track, the iconic theme is anxiety, the build up the “dun dun.. dun dun” gives that feeling of anxiety building up. The best example of the “Man vs. Nature” conflict, even if it’s a shark with little screen time. It’s a great movie disguised as horror, even in its bright and sunny setting of the beach and the boat. A masterpiece, of men vs a shark.
