Hazbin Hotel
Review for actual series:
I think it has to be said first that this series had very interesting and humble origins being posted on YouTube and then becoming a full fledged series backed by a major studio. It really is an underdog story. However this shouldn’t detract from an actual review of it.
I think the series could’ve been much better than it actually was. Some of the character development feels static and unearned. There needed to be more time to develop these characters which they had, instead of rushing through character development.
On the bright side the animation, voice acting, and music is wonderful and had me pause the show multiple times to admire a frame.
I however have one glaring issue with this series and it relates to the character development issues I had as well, the writing is not that great or even good, it’s meh writing. The cursing is fine, I get it there in hell, haha they curse a lot cuz they’re bad people, but then you get to heaven and then St Peter drops the F-bomb. I don’t understand, I don’t think people would be constantly cursing in heaven, and the way they wrote Adam was just confusing. How is he in heaven. Maybe that’s part of the mystery but I believe heaven could’ve been written way better. Don’t make them curse they would be so much more intimidating if they were written as elitists who believed they were truly better instead of douche frat boys. Show not tell you know.
That’s really the problem with this show and many other pieces of media, they show not tell. So great music, meh writing, and excellent voice acting. Hope they improve this for season 2.
