Superman
Best superhero movie I’ve seen in a long time. David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman/Clarke Kent was spot-on, so reminiscent of the Superman of the comics. The film managed to not take itself too seriously while also allowing itself to be cheesy in a wholesome way that is perfectly ‘DC’, establishing itself as separate from Old Marvel’s dry humour and sarcasm without the slightly exhausting sternness of some original DC films. Corenswet’s all-American-style Superman perfectly complimented the CLEAR political messaging (I’m looking at you, Guardian review), stopping the film from seeming aggressive in its obvious political stance while still keeping it clear. The side characters were a mix of comedic relief (Green Lantern, Jimmy Olsen) and emotion (Metamorpho, Mali, Ma & Pa Kent). Not just a great film, but a great Superman film. 5 stars.
