Beautiful yet haunting movie that’s sticks with you even more when u read about the actual case it’s based on and the chilling similarities. Bong amazingly integrates complex characters into the world of pre democracy South Korea. The way that both detectives, who are opposites of each other, slowly lose their ways, beliefs, and minds trying to deal with the scariest part of the narrative: the unknown. With so many twisted people hiding in each corner of the rural town, this makes it even more harder for them as the case takes a toll on the detectives. Bong masterfully integrates many issues such as police brutality, male violence, and the ongoing political tension within South Korea. The cinematography is breathtaking, with some shots of the beautiful landscapes belonging in galleries. Due to how long this movie sticks with you and the crushing emotions it leaves inside of you, I think this is Bong’s best work and has easily cemented its place in my top 4.

Beautiful, emotional space adventure
