Persona
Are we are who we say we are? Do the values we hold and the beliefs about ourselves matter more than our actions? Are we doomed to merely shuffle through roles like actors on a stage, doomed to play on as caricatures imposed on us by other’s interpretations of who we are? Can we ever escape the othering imposed on us by people, friends, family, society? Can we escape the expectations of our gender? Our sexuality? Our body? Our mortality? This films asks more questions than it answers. In fact it answers none, and asks infinitely. Perhaps one of, if not the greatest film ever made. Not only revolutionary in substance but also in style as well. Surreal masterpiece. Existential tour de force.
