Wow what an absolutely great film, feels almost like looking into the near future which is a crazy accurate prediction as to what 2022 would look like (basically the same as today just with a much bigger global food/water shortage). If you haven’t seen this go in as blind as possible and really just let the mysterious narrative slowly unfold with you as it does for the detective. This definitely falls into my favorite category of movies in which the main characters (believing they are advancing the story via their own free will) are driven by impossibly incomprehensible powers that determine their fate from the very beginning. This is a more realistic and modern take on that idea but more than succeeds in its execution! Feels like a precursor to the events of the book Tender is The Flesh.

IMAX Early Access Screening Guys I’m not kidding, Nolan is back, I don’t know how to say this other than Nolan executes perfectly with this. I was so nervous because Oppenheimer wasn’t great but good lord was I converted back into being a Nolan believer. Not since Dune Part 2 have I seen a movie with such perfect understanding of cinematic language. Every aspect of the film is full of depth and meaning. Each character is rich and emotionally enriched. Even characters with less than 3 minutes of screen time are given interesting arcs. Every performance has depth and feels real. Everyone isn’t acting, they are living as these characters. This might be the first fully character driven epic Nolan is able to perfectly execute. Not since watching Inception for the first time have I been so enthralled with a Nolan film. It’s like he somehow recognized Oppenheimer’s flaws, Inception’s characters, and Interstellar’s spectacle and was able to form the best possible film he could out of them. The last hour is straight up some of the best cinematic experiences I’ve had in years. One moment in particular between Odysseus and Penelope might be one of the best cinematic experiences I’ve ever experienced. And I don’t mean cinematic as in the cinematography, I mean cinematic as in emblematic of the purpose of cinema. That moment alone encapsulates everything this story is about, everything that has meaning and purpose for these characters and their world finally internalized for them and the audience. A perfect moment. Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Anne Hathaway are the heart and soul of this film. Each one of them deliver perfect performances. They are Odysseus, Penelope, and Telemachus. I felt them inherit and encompass what it means to be those characters. Honestly what a beautiful cinematic family. At the end of it all I sat in wonder and awe at what was achieved. What I experienced. Feeling my mind and body release emotions of comfort and triumph. Only one word came to my mind as I watched the credits appear… Monumental. Never did I believe I would become a Nolan believer. And yet… here I am, here I remain.

Yo unironically a crazy good insanely low budget film that is free to watch on YouTube. The story and the lead actress are genuinely so intriguing and engaging to watch even with the low quality. The finale is so incredible and I wasn’t expecting that final scene. I do wish the budget was a bit higher because I think the ending would have hit just that much harder. This is the ideal type of low budget film that is an excellent story, only held back by the budget. I wish this guy was given the opportunity to reshoot this whole thing with a bigger scale production. Could be an insane experience. Highly recommended!

There’s very little plot but good lord does the vibe of this movie just seep into every part of you. Felt like a Lynchian psychotic sexual dreamscape. I think the final line is what really made this film more than just a horny compilation of car crashes and sex scenes. “Maybe next time.” I wish there was more to explore following the finale because it doesn’t get into much narratively. The film itself feels like an exhibition piece rather than a traditional story (even though I think there really is a compelling narrative buried within). Anyways I think me and my wife are gonna go for a drive.
