The Lighthouse
Really just at a loss for words, but for all the correct reasons i’d say. It just continuously kept surprising me on every level of filmmaking. Which ultimately left me speechless for minutes on end. I have never been so scared in several moments throughout a film, just for the next scenes to be on the same level of intensity but in the most comedic dialogue.
My first Eggers film as well, and damn does this man know how to form an unreal atmosphere. From the start of the film the 1.19:1 aspect ratio drops you into a claustrophobic atmosphere and prepares you for the crazy ride you’re about to experience. I also don’t know what camera they used but it gave it this crusty look to the eye, which really just adds to the unsettling, intense, and ambiguous masterpiece this film is.
Unreal performances from one of the greatest of our generation and another all time great in a previous generation. Their work speaks for itself.
Leaves the audience up to interpret most events for themselves which I always truly love. Just such a compelling story.
