Ran
Harmonious chaos!!
Ran managed to portray horrific political situation of Japan and chaotic, almost cruel nature of humans through most harmonious and beautiful cinematography. This movie shows us the most interesting family dynamic and hints that family might just be a custom and formality in face of authority. Throughout two brothers we see how powerless humans are when they have power in their hands.. Aside from family/authority themes, Ran portrays themes of mortality through Hidetora’s character. His character arc is almost comical, but also sad and tragic. He reflects the sad nature of humanity and having to face the end of mortality. Philosophically this movie is almost nihilistic and shows us the unavoidable chaos that’s caused by humans and their nature. Humans die, but chaos they bring lives on… We have multiple opportunities to avoid it, but we don’t. Movie final tells us that we’re willing walking into chaos and letting our nature destroy us. costumes were amazing, the way colors were used just pleasantly shocked me, female characters are incredible and every single theme used is globally relevant and interesting!!
RAN was exciting, dramatic, thought provoking and beautiful. HUGE HUGE FAN
