When I saw the names involved in this movie, it did build up a sort of hype to be honest. Now was that fulfilled? Unfortunately not. The beginning of the movie was slow and confusing. It's not the fact that the watcher was kind of left to figure out stuff as it progressed, but more about the fact that said stuff was almost barely addressed. The train scene is probably where the movie started to pick up the pace a little bit. As much as I wasn't the biggest fan of the "the aliens gave you this, and they gave him that, and to control your 'powers' you need to go back and adress the trauma together", it at least made sense in respect to the whole empathy theme in the movie. The theme of empathy was probably the one that was best adressed in the movie. The fact that the whole world almost switched up on them, when most people would probably be scared, or better said, wouldn't feel this much empathy towards these types of creatures, was probably the best thing about this movie. Another theme in the movie was the theme of religion, which I felt like was underdeveloped. This theme had so much potential, especially because of the monastery and the whole thing about the girl being an ex-nun. Colors and cinematography wise I can say that I didn't mind it, especially because of how the final act picked up, where I think you could definitely feel the Spielberg vibe way more. So, in conclusion the core issue with this movie is the first act, however I do think that it got better towards the end.
