as far as sequels go it was decent, which is still good especially bc the first was just so iconic. the messy relationships and alliances were fun and wasnt an issue to me. the main problem with the film to me was that it was saying enough to *look* like it was taking a stance against widespread ai usage, commercial/digital changes in society, and journalisms decline (to name a few), but theres too many baskets for these eggs. my wish was there to be more emphasis on one of these things, and not just a wide range + too much time spent on secondary chacters and not enough time on their relationships. ai use in the arts and culture was a good lafger societal issue that was right there... that couldve been much more interesting than a few throwaway lines. i did like mirandas chat with tjat tech guy at the church but allowing andy to also have that motivation other than just loyalty to miranda (esp bc ai also threatens journalism) would have established a stronger relationship between the two and made the film stronger as a whole. obviously the romance subplot felt very jarringly out of place in the context of the whole film. the first movies main idea is that being heavily career oriented causes rifts within relationships if one isnt careful to not lose their values and loved ones. the second, miranda somehow gets remarried to some guy who came out of nowhere, and andy gets with someone in some construction/design? i get his whole thing was like oh gentrification isnt that bad and provides a different perspective to andy, but seriously. wtf. also her going back to him at fhe end of the film and saying like oh i need to be a good person or whatever like bro. youve known this guy like 5 months tops. one way this couldve been handled better is if andy were in a relationship at the start of the film that is already rocky bc of her journal getting dissolved, ghey break up, she realises shes let herself lose her values with all the craziness again... BUT like why do they need romance at all. rhey obv show lucy lius charavyer as the oh dont be defined by ur man, so make andy a character fhat doesnt need a man to begin with. meryl streeps husband is also a weird addition, we have no info about him or anything, but he shows up so often to help out or whatever. he couldve been used as a way to gain insight into mirandas mind through dialogue, which ghey kinda tried to do but it fell flat and forced bc of how his character just isnt inferesting + introduced poorly. so miranda shouldve stayed divorced lol. wouldve made her more understandable and using the twins to show her vulnerable side wouldve been a better choice altogether. this jist feels like a cashgrab. first film was fine as a standalone. loved nigel in this film too. emily blunts character i think was done very well in the sequel and didnt have any problems with her story line. it seemed in chracter and was interesting. overall it was entertaining but so many weaker points made the film more like a "turn off ur brain and just watch"

problematic age gap yuri 🤤🤤🤤

peak british humour. i liked all the wackiness of this film and had a good time for its entirety!

amaze amaze amaze exclamation this was really fun, very beautiful and captured a lot of emotional moments. i think this movie did what it wanted to very well (puppets and vfx), but ultimately fell short mainly because it's an adaptation. what i liked: -rocky!! he was the huge highlight and it was great how they got him to move around like that and make it look so naturally. their dynamic was portrayed quite fun -that scene collecting astrophage from the petrovaline was so breathtaking and everything really came together (vfx, music, acting..). definitely a top 3 scene in this film -the emotional moments definitely hit. when rocky "slept" i started bawling my eyes out and i just kept leaking lol -the flashback scenes were integrated quite well, but most effectively and humourously in the first half. the second half felt a little more missplaced what i thought was *ok* -sooooooo much of the science was skipped lol, but it makes sense considering it's a movie with limited time but man! i was wondering so much abt rocky that isnt explained, and everything was moving so quickly. also they were taking SOOO MANY liberties with the translation tech -the dilemma of going back to earth and saving rocky is much shorter than in the book and has less emotional focus because it was obvious what he was gonna do lol -a strong feeling i got in the book was the death of the other two, the loneliness of the ship, the weight of responsibility grace had. the movie just had a different feel. i wish they leaned into that a bit more, but its ok overall: really enjoyed it! just a few nitpicky things that i wish couldve been expanded on if only they had more time. this is the hottest ryan gosling has ever been to me and rocky is best rock!!
