Carol
"Please believe that I would do anything to see you happy. So, I do the only thing I can... I release you."
watching this film was like reading someone's diary about their love life they kept secret. to be honest, this is my third time seeing this film. i previously watched it twice before today and many days before that. i watched it a long time ago, and it was really beautiful. first watch, it didn't get me. second, my heart flew into another realm where they called it "love". Carol tells the story of an old, married woman getting through a divorce with her rich but selfish husband, fell in love with a fair but younger woman who specializes in photography. their romance became a memory that will last evermore. Even though the film mainly focuses on Therese, but still the story is about Carol but through Therese’s point-of-view. their love, was just so crushing when you look at it in the other way. everything looks fine at the very beginning but it slowly becoming worse when Carol’s husband intervenes. what a douchebag!
Anyway, this film was incredibly shot in a beautiful, cinematographic way no other film can (probably) do. The filmmakers portrayed how love really works; where you too shy and scared to express your true feelings to a certain someone at first. how you look at them in a gentle, curious way from afar. and at the end, you feel a stronger connection that holds you tight and will never let you go. love works in mysterious ways, and it's okay. we think that *we accept the love we think we deserve.* seeing Therese's loneliness makes me related to her. she is so gorgeous. both of them are. special thanks to Todd Haynes, for giving us one of the most rightful adaptation from its book—a book that was made more than 50 years ago but never be forgotten. 🧤
