im sorry but i really enjoyed watching this movie..
I read a lot of reviews about how people didn’t like this movie because of the portrayal of white saviorism. But we shouldn’t forget that this movie is based on real events. I think you can clearly see that Mrs. Gruwell actually cared for these kids and motivated them, and didn’t help them just to feel better about herself.
This movie shows how teachers can truly help children succeed in life. If they don’t have someone to talk to or have problems at home, they can have a shoulder to cry on in a teacher.
I saw a review on TikTok and completely agree with the girl who said that teachers need to invest in children. Every single one of them, especially the one that are overlooked and not appreciated and I think that was the main message of this movie; a teacher helping her students to succeed, and not a white person that can fix everything.
