May
Picture it: it’s 5 a.m., I can’t sleep, and I have to be up for work in two hours—so naturally, I do the rational thing and put on a horror movie. What I was not expecting was this.
From the very first scene to the final shot, the vibes are immaculate and absolutely terrifying. The soundtrack? The best horror score I’ve heard since Coraline. The cinematography? Gorgeous—and not just pretty, but purposeful, actually enhancing the story.
The cast is pitch-perfect. Angela Bettis is completely unhinged as May—obsessive, unsettling, magnetic. Jeremy Sisto balances her out brilliantly, a laid-back guy intrigued by her advances yet terrified of real commitment. Every performance feels exactly right.
What I love most is that this is character-driven horror done flawlessly. I could never predict where it was going—whether with May, with Polly, or even with the doll. The gore is effective without being gratuitous, and that ending? Straight-up Oedipus Rex vibes. The way she gouges her eyes out to avoid the horrors she’s created—absolutely stunning, horrifying, unforgettable.
I finished the movie too wired and unsettled to sleep, but honestly? No regrets. This film is STUNNING.
