this movie isn’t a movie to me. i don’t know what it is. i’ve never felt like this at the end of a movie, i didn’t even have a rating in mind. it didn’t even feel right to rate it. but maybe that says more about me than the movie 😭

i will NEVER understand why someone would take a perfectly good source material just to change it. this movie is such a weak attempt on preserving the integrity of the original plot. it didn’t take an artistic twist (see the Talented Mr Ripley (1977)) or make it any better. if you don’t think the source is applicable to film then don’t make a film. i don’t understand changing it but keeping just character names and the major plot points (sort of). either don’t make it, reimagine it (which requires actually reimagining it. artistically. and even then it’s still meh), or make it accurate. the hunger games movies do a fantastic job at this. it’s not impossible. it’s just ragebait. i will say that this movies tom ripley had the same overall aura of book Tom. not as cool imo but had the same mundane, grounded approach to things as crazy as murder.  why is william dafoe here that just makes me mad
