Looking for Alaska
edit: i realize now that i was in fact too critical of this. i did enjoy watching this, and i am no longer as upset about alaska.. why was i fuming LOL. it’s a fun, cute show that did make me cry and laugh
i’m gonna keep my original review here since i do still have some of the same opinions
i have very mixed feelings about this
i never read the book, and after this, i don’t have any desire to. for the most part, the characters were fun and i was interested in their stories, but something kept bugging me. especially alaska. at first, i thought they just needed to flesh out her character a bit more but that just never happened. she kept sabotaging everything in a way that felt so destructive and never let the plot progress. and the way she talked made it seem like the writers have never talked to a woman in their lives. her character had so much potential, and they really wasted it.
also the romance plot between miles and alaska was dragging on for sooooo long, i didn’t even want them to be together. it was too much back and forth to the point that it was just annoying.
in all honesty, i did enjoy watching this. the characters were fun for the most part and i laughed at a lot of the jokes. last two episodes, especially episode seven, had me pretty emotional and felt like a great conclusion to the show. except for that assembly scene at the end. that felt a little weird. i just wish they respected alaska as a character much much more. that ruined the vibe a bit for me
i probably would’ve loved this more if i watched it a few years ago when it came out. i feel i’m slightly too old for it to really resonate with me.
i pulled an all-nighter to watch this, so there’s a possibility i am hating on this way more than necessary since i tend to get overly critical when i’m tired. who knows.
anyways, this was another addition to my charlie plummer “marathon”, he is so awesome and cool even though this was a disappointment
ok i’m done yapping i swear!!
