Funny Games
Okay, so I reviewed the shot for shot remake of this movie all the way back in May, and I gave tit a bad review, but i completely take that back, as i feel like i didn't have a full appreciation and understanding of the movie. Lets address my complaints of the movie before: I was confused on why they have the power to break the fourth wall, and didn't like that, but now i understand that it adds to the point of the movie and it's themes extremely well. I said the writing was fine, which i take back since this is some amazing writing. I said that the horror/thriller nature of it wasn't very impactful, and i think its impactful in the way its going for but not the way you'd usually expect if you know what i mean. I thought that the message was poorly done, which i completely disagree with past me, since this is a unique message told in a very unique way. I also said the directing is fine, which i completely disagree with that now, since i think it definitely adds to the theme well.
okay now lets get to my actual review now that i've addressed that. I thought the message was done on a intellectually engaging level and extremely well, with many things it does to enhance the themes that i probably didn't even pick up on since it feels like it had so much thought put into it. My only complaint is that the film is a bit boring, but even that is intentional and thought provoking! I probably wont rewatch this ever again but i still think its a masterpiece at what its trying to do. I also think that the acting is way better in this one!
