Having been somewhat critical of Tom Holland’s performance in The Odyssey and of the previous entries into his tenure as Spider-Man, I’ll give him credit where credit is due, he really is outstanding here. It’s the first of this MCU Spider-Man run that has truly felt like it’s Tom Holland’s own without it purely feeling like a device to get the Cinematic Universe from point A to point B. I mean I really could harp on all day about how good Holland is here but then that would take away from the true star of the show, Sadie Sink. She absolutely steals the limelight every time she’s on screen which says a lot considering how well I’ve praised Tom Holland so far. It’s good to see that the mcu can still release films that look this good, I just wish they take note and start doing it more often. Oh and I should also mention that this film has done something that no other mcu film (at least to my recollection) has done in make me cry. Finally, I’m going to utter words that I never thought I would ever say in my lifetime but I liked Ned in this film.

I would be lying if I said that I felt much for some of these character but what Battle Royale does very well is somehow not make that matter too much. It’s shocking to the point where my jaw dropped multiple times and its premise makes for a very entertaining film. Good stuff even if i’m a little disappointed that I didn’t completely love it.

I like movies that know exactly what they want to be and don’t try punch above their weight. I had a lot of fun here. Some really good looking backdrops to the fights as well which always makes for a joy to watch.

I mean it's very clear why this has the reputation it does. It's well made and the performances are pretty stellar across the board. However, it is so relentlessly bleak that after a while it simply became exhausting. Each character is trapped in this endless cycle of cruelty, betrayal, and suffering, which I do get is the point, but I needed even just the smallest moment to breathe at some point and that never came. By the time we got to the third part, I realised that I was only caring for the filmmaking rather than actually caring about what was happening.
