About Time
What a beautiful film. Easily one of the best romantic movies I’ve ever seen, and on top of that it has time travel? Honestly, what more could you ask for. Going in, I really thought it was going to completely break my heart by using time travel as a way to keep them apart, but instead it decided to destroy me in a totally different and much more meaningful way.
The soundtrack is lovely and fits the movie perfectly. Every song feels carefully chosen and blends naturally with the emotions of each moment. The camera work also really impressed me. Movies like this don’t usually rely on flashy visuals, but everything here is done with so much care. That sequence where we see them moving forward through time in the same metro station, going to work, on dates, living their lives, always with the same band playing music in the background, is easily one of my favorites. Watching their lives pass through that one place is simple but incredibly effective.
Performance wise, Domhnall Gleeson does a fantastic job. I love how he plays the character with those early touches of shyness and insecurity, and how you can slowly see him grow out of them over time. Rachel McAdams is great too. They have wonderful chemistry together, and her character is just so easy to fall in love with, I completely get why he does. And then there’s Bill Nighy as his father, which might honestly be my favorite part of the whole movie. His performance is incredible, so warm and heartfelt, the kind of dad everyone wishes they had.
The supporting cast is stacked as well. Margot Robbie, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hollander… everyone shows up and does a really solid job, even in smaller roles.
As for the story, it’s fantastic. What I really love is that, even though it’s a romantic film, it’s not just about love as a couple. It also explores love for family, especially the bond with a father and a sister, that desire to help them and spend time with them. That completely won me over. It’s a beautiful story to watch unfold. I was expecting more obstacles for the couple to stay together, but honestly, not suffering in that way felt refreshing.
At its core, the movie is about the passage of time and how we choose to live our lives. The message about appreciating everyday moments really hit me, and it genuinely makes me want to try to live like that more often. That final scene with the last walk together is absolutely beautiful, and the speech about time right after that is just perfect.
I really hope I get to experience a love like that someday, and to live life truly enjoying the time we’re given.
