Oppenheimer
this is a very hard movie to review. not because it was confusing, but because it was so great. every detail of this movie should be celebrated. and i will try to celebrate everything in this review
the storyi have no idea why this story is not more well known. it is such a tragic story of a man that did so much for the scientific community, only to be blacklisted by the country that supported him. nolan has done a great job applying his style of filmmaking to this deep and complex story to deliver a compelling narrative, led by his directing and the fantastic ensemble cast.
directingthis movie is really an achievement in cinema, due to the brilliance of christopher nolan. everything from the close up shots of cillian murphy, to the black and white segments. the most impressive part of the directing of this movie had to be when they were about to do the trinity project. of course we knew that it would work, but when watching the movie, i wasn’t certain about it. this part as well as many parts in the movie could only be done by christoper nolan. there is still so much more to say about the directing of this movie.
the castholy smokes this cast was great. everyone in this movie had their own moment, and they all made the most of it. it goes without saying that cillian murphy was fantastic, but it needs to be mentioned that the other cast members were great. robert downey jr, to my surprise, showed that he is not defined as playing tony stark, and that he is a great actor through his enthralling performance as lewis strauss. another member of the cast i have to mention is jason clarke. one of my favorite actors today, his role (although small) had such an impact on this movie and i was really impressed by his acting
the scoreludwig göransson made a phenomenal soundtrack for the movie. his soundtrack helped make the movie feel so immersive.
conclusionthere is still so much to say about this movie, but i urge everyone that sees this review to see it in a theater. do not wait until this movie comes out on streaming; go see it in a theater. additionally try to see it on film, not a digital copy. i firmly believe that no other movie will top this movie in the next few years.
