The Doom Generation
From the moment I heard Alison by Slowdive I knew this was gonna be peak.
I loved how absurd this entire movie was, it genuinely feels like a nightmare where every single person you run into is either insane, horny, violent or all three at once. The random conversations, the weird encounters, the constant 666 jokes, people calling Amy different names every five minutes it all feels so surreal but somehow completely fits the movie’s world and in general it’s very much Gregg Araki.
The dialogues were probably one of my favorite parts. Everybody talks in this detached overdramatic way that makes even the most horrible scenes weirdly funny. It feels very artificial but intentionally so, like none of these characters really know how to communicate normally anymore.
I also loved how emotionally messy the three main characters were. Amy feels like everybody keeps trying to turn her into their own version of her until she barely even feels real anymore, Jordan spends the entire movie trying to act confident and masculine while clearly falling apart inside and X literally feels like chaos as a person and he’s a manipulative mf. The whole relationship between them feels toxic and doomed from the start imo.
The ending is totally fucked up (get the reference?🤣🤣🤣🤣) and not just because it was brutal but because it felt so hopeless. Jordan’s ending especially felt cruel after watching him slowly lose himself during the whole fucking movie. And the final scene with Amy completely numb while X casually offering her a dorito right after everything that happened was absolutely a perfect ending for the film.
Definitely my favorite from the trilogy.
