That double knife swipe was nasty work (complimentary)

The fact this director would go on to make The Jinx about Robert Durst who *shockingly* enjoyed this movie, willingly sat down for an interview and then CONFESSED to MULTIPLE crimes on a hot mic while in the bathroom after the interview wrapped… you can’t make this stuff up. What a weirdo. Watch that instead of whatever this was lol

“Dewey, who gives a fuck?” “I do.” If you listen closely you can hear my soft sobs in the background.

What. A. Letdown. I went in with high hopes due to Kevin Williamson finally putting the director cap on. The first 2/3 was pretty good but the final act was an insult to all its predecessors. The AI angle is topical and intriguing but went literally nowhere. I liked how it honors the legacy of Sidney and Gale and as a fan the homages to the franchise were fun to spot... It relies on nostalgia to which Mindy pointed out that’s the new direction with horror. However, the franchise has always added more to that conversation and instead briefly touches on them without going further. This film doesn’t invest enough time into the newer characters so their deaths lack the impact the previous films did so well. Overall this one lacked so much of the nuances and critiques this franchise built itself on. *Also worth noting. It’s always a treat to have Matthew Lillard on my screen. Neve Campbell delivers her most powerful portrayal of Sidney and Mason Gooding is as charismatic and sexy as always. * * * ****Edit: it’s been a couple hours and I’ve sat with this some more. It’s clear this movie is a love letter to Sidney Prescott’s legacy as a survivor and that she’s the heartbeat of this movie. As someone who has always looked up to Sidney in some regard, I can appreciate what they did for my gal.****
