Nice product placement, Mr Zendaya, though they’re surely not stocking your Bero in that corner shop. Yeah, it’s a bit darker and grittier, but I’m not entirely sold. Maybe it hits more if you’re big into the comic books and video games. Outside of this, it all feels a little long and messy. Some great individual set pieces and decent performances, some strangely shoe horned-in cameos. I thought I’d like it more!

Contemplative, meditative, sensitive. A look at grief, but even more so at life. Mundanity reframed as beauty, sci-fi softened by dappled sunlight, lush green grass and beautiful architecture. Loved the echoed lines as recollections shifted with time and perspective, and the quiet montages of memories Yang held onto. A visual and sonic triumph, even if the pacing doesn't always work. Nice to have a robot film that feels this human.

Not well-made enough to in any way measure up to the original, not consistently silly enough (although it does have some cracking moments), to be fun shark trash. We may have John Williams and a few of the cast still here, but Spielberg’s absence is definitely felt. Too many characters, too much filler, too little blood
