Moonlight
this film does a breathtakingly good job at portraying how isolating queerness can be and the progression and growth of each character is phenomenal. never once did the characters feel unnatural or unrealistic, even when they were shown at such different stages of their life. the transitions between these life stages and changing of actors was seamless, and it felt like i was watching real people; as though i witnessing intimate moments that were supposed to be only for the people on screen.
i thought when i first watched La La Land that no other film made in 2016 could be better than it, but after being impacted more by a single line and a glance in this film more than whole scripts in other films, i think i wouldve been more upset had the best picture award gone to anything but this.
