Annihilation
Wow, I liked this a lot more than I thought I would, and now it's probably my favorite Lovecraftian/Sci-Fi movie I've seen. Very few times have I finished a movie, and immediately after, learned more about it and what other people thought of it. All I did after finishing the movie was watch YouTube video essays and scroll reviews about Annihilation, and the more I learned, the more I loved it. I find everything about this movie awesome. The acting was great, the CGI was beautiful, and Concept blew me away. I love how the film plays with the world inside the Shimmer, blending all reality, creating this beautiful world of spectacle and storytelling. My main criticism is that it tried way too hard to be ambiguous. For instance, there are these little details throughout the film that seem to exist only to strengthen the ambiguity of the ending, rather than add to it. The other criticism is how the theme of self-destruction is everywhere in the film, yet it never delves too deeply into it. It leaves some of the characters unfleshed out and a little one noted. But other than that, I absolutely loved this movie, and I can't wait to watch it again.
