DriveLiterally my Movie9.9· April 16, 2024FollowDriver: "Is he a bad guy?"Benicio: "Yeah".Driver: "How can you tell?"Benicio: "Because he's shark".Driver: "There's no good sharks?". I love Drive. Not only because Ryan Gosling is literally me but the way how this film is structured. Let me start the engine. It's a simple story: A dude (who's name is NOT TOLD in the story) works as a stunt-driver in the day and in the night as a getaway driver for criminals but once he mets a special girl (aka the neighbor) and her's son, he puts a stop pedal into his criminal life trying to make the best for them (and also fall in love with her ig) but once her husband's gets out of jail things go wrong, AND I MEAN WRONG.It's like a clock, ticking, ticking, ticking....and that's what makes the sound feel special as it's the driver's past life pursuing him, chasing him, like it's not action-action but action-that-scares-some-shit-outta-u aka action used GOOD, not like the fucking crap they make nowadays to just entertain your goddamn tiktok span attention-subway surfers gameplay. As for Ryan Gosling's character, I got a lot to say.First off, he doesn't have a name which I think it was a really good choice in the film, as he wants to help people but that's it; he's just a human being. A real hero,or a scorpion who helps the frog across the river or some shit I dont remember, who's a bad dude aka anti-hero or shark,(which I mentioned in the beginning of the review as that part as it really felt like the main thing of this film and also what I found really special) but he doesn't change. Everything he does for wanting to change doesn't work, he can't help it, instead make it worse and worse as it goes on. He represents the wanting to change, but the past life never goes away. Never pretend it doesn't exist. That's why in the ending he just leaves L.A. to not cause any problems anymore. He also represents the past life that stays with you everywhere you go, no matter what, and also why we NEVER know his past story, as the film thinks we shouldn't go into it. In every world or street he goes in make troubles more than ever. The elevator scene (which I consider to be the greatest elevator scene ever) where as that was the moment when the Driver and Irene entered each other’s worlds and that kiss scene; the brightness that goes down, where our imagination shines wondering if it happened or not and wow, what a scene. Literally. As for the sound-track, I don't have a lot to say other than Nightcall and a Real Hero, which represent the Driver imo. Also the cinematography, specially the scene at the end in the sunlight where we see the Driver's shadow kill the villain, as again, everywhere he goes, he can't run his past life, where the sun represents Irene and Benicio. That's one of the greatest shots of the film Imo. Overall, a simple film where the plot, the stuff that it has is literally more than just simple.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
