perfectly captures the essence of weimar republic nightlife, and the ways in which the nazi parties authoritarian policies and ideals were beginning to seep through everyday german life.  liza minnelli was just divine ! ✨ and i loved the queer themes explored in this. everything was just done so flawlessly. so deserving of all the oscar’s it received in its day without a doubt.

the voiceover during the love scenes was so poetic 🥺 and the transitions between past and present were done so well.

i didn’t hate this by any means ! i just feel like way more could’ve come out of it :( there were some very heartfelt moments that i enjoyed, but halfway through the movie i couldn’t help but feel like things got quite stagnant for a bit. we were kind of going in circles focusing on nick and charlie’s own individual problems and their communication issues without really getting anywhere. the supporting cast didn’t get that much screen time as well. maybe that’s why watching this felt a little suffocating at times. i wish we got more individual scenes with the rest of the gang. this should’ve been made into a 4th season instead of a movie imo !
