“Star Command! I’ve been taken hostage by my own prisoners.”

I appreciate that this movie brings death back to Disney movies and the antagonists were actually pretty sinister, but I called the twist villain in literally his first onscreen line. Sooner or later Disney needs to realize that a twist doesn’t make the villain inherently more interesting, well written, or even more villainous. The only Disney/pixar movies with twist villains that worked for me personally was Wreck-it-Ralph and Coco. Wreck-it-Ralph because the villain was always the villain, he just had a well foreshadowed identity reveal, and Coco because that movie’s incredible and made you turn on Ernesto in a soul destroying flashback. Man, Coco; what a movie. That movie managed to take a charming hero figure who Miguel idolized for the entire first 2 acts and set up one of Pixar’s best villains in like 5 minutes.

One of the better Christmas movies out there.
