300th individual movie of the year special!!!!
For around the last year and a half ive been building this movie up in my head, its right in the middle of my favorite era of film (1995-2005 Japanese art house) its directed by the guy that made my second favorite anime and fourth favorite movie, and stars my favorite director, all a very winning formula for something id love.
What i didnt expect was to connect as deeply with this as i did with evangelion, i didnt think anno could make anything on that level again, that he peaked with that, but i was wrong. this not only meets the same level as the end of evangelion but in certain aspects surpasses it.
Loneliness, longing, and isolation are themes i deeply resonate with in any medium, but film is where that really shines for me, its the most true visual medium for those themes, sure a tv show or video game can capture those exceptionally well but a single self contained film is just, different.
I kinda hate being that guy that has a ton of Japanese movies in his favorites list but i just connect on a different level with the best films from japan than i do with the best from anywhere else, but honestly it doesn't matter, i unapologetically like what i like who cares if its from one specific country.
Dont yearn for tomorrow, make the most of today.
