Matilda
”Matilda, I think it’s a very good idea to remember that you can do anything you put your mind to. Anything at all.”
I thought the versione of my who aspires to be a teacher was dead but then this movie comes and digs up the corpse.
In 98 minutes they managed to compose a movie with everything in it, happiness, as much as sadness, tragedy, injustice, as much as comfort, hope and innocence. This movie praises culture in such a gentle and disinterested way, its a forerunner, forward-seeing into a pyramid in which (mental/intellectual) education lies on top. And what if i say that matilda magic power's are the most realistic role in the whole movie? Miss honey was encouraging a 8yo who claims to be magical and i myself felt suddenly empowered to win in life.
i am too blinded from love for kids and miss honey brightness to focus on the complaint of systematic illiteracy, ignorance and greed emboiding the bases of economic and social plagues, the highlighting of child abuse, the importance of emotional validation, and how life, achievements and professional outcomes are often more or less determined by in which corner of the world we are born or in which cradle we find ourselves when a bored family sets foot in a hospital. In conclusion, i miss my Miss Honey and i love 90s movies with a bad computer editing.
