Postman Blues
Postman Blues takes genre and disregards it entirely. This movie is just effortlessly cool, slipping through ideas like a boxer weaving his way effortlessly through a barrage of punches. With every character all of wildly different backgrounds the movie veers into homage. With the freewheeling yet controlled calm of hitman films, the tense rigidity of yakuza films and the lighthearted clarity found when escaping a rhythmic robotic life all combined together. The police in this film are just generationally stupid yet in equal parts the postman's ability to be at the wrong place at the wrong time so frequently left me almost banging my head in frustration. The climax of this film compounded with me on the elliptical led to me having a heart rate ridiculously high. The tension was so palpable I was glued to the screen until I felt an utter gut punch as the words “Directed by Sabu” flashed across the screen, stamped forever in my mind.
