Materialists
"You must know a lot about love."
"I know a lot about dating"
"What's the difference?"
I could tell this movie had the sauce when this question made me say aloud
"A LOT"
This is not a rom-com, this is a social commentary on the modern dating scene and I think this movie nails this aspect. To me, the movie is not about dakota and her relationships. People calling this broke man propaganda makes me roll my eyes because the movie is teaching you that the surface level shit you latch on when dating is fleeting.
This movie is about how love and dating mean COMPLETELY different things nowadays in this modern climate and how the dialogue and characters bring the themes of expectations, plastic love and how both men and women(mostly men tho) can be very shitty people sometimes home.
Having high standards and allat jazz can be great but you are not dating assets. You are dating PEOPLE, real human beings with real human feelings and human mistakes.
