*Why are you running away? You came here to have fun? Go ahead, have fun! Is this a happy picture? Don't avert your eyes. Look! I am Cuba. For you, I am the casino, the bar, the hotels. But the hands of these children and old people, are also me.* A beautiful and disheartening personification of not only cuba, but any homelands affected by the dirty hands of imperialism. We start off with so much cultural enrichment and end off in oppression and despair but also left off with a new hope one to keep pushing foward, to fight back. Each one of the vignettes show the same type of oppression through a different lens, one of dignity, finance, politics, and survival and I feel like they correspond with eachother so fluidly. This film obviously reached a milestone for cinematic history so i won’t say much there. I kinda don’t even see this as a film, i don’t really see anything subjective about this. it’s more like a staple, a very important study tool, something you need to see. ***‘I used to think the most terrifying thing in life is death. Now I know the most terrifying thing in life is life.’***
