Aftersun
*
Aftersun left me with a weight I can’t quite name. Through Sophie, I felt seen in a way I didn’t expect not in the details of her life, but in that quiet ache of being a kid who doesn’t belong, not fully with adults, not fully with other kids. The silence in the film only made it more haunting, more real.
Watching her with her dad felt like witnessing two souls speaking without words, mirrors of each other, as if you’re sitting across from your own future self. Every glance carried what couldn’t be said, and that unspoken language was more human than dialogue could ever be.
That’s what makes it unforgettable it doesn’t explain itself, it just exists, unapologetically human, leaving you to feel everything it couldn’t say aloud.*
