Kill Bill: Vol. 1
Thanks Logan for the recommendation.

When I was about 13 I had the canon event of being a “film bro”, so like most do I wanted to see Tarrintino’s filmography. And funny enough, I’ve now seen it all, but I haven’t logged/rewatched. So today I thought I’d come back to a film that I clearly didn’t remember very well but oh my god.
Kill Bill is nothing short of a masterpiece, it manages to dash through the ins and outs of different genres and styles while maintaining its balance. I loved the way it turned into an anime for O-Ren Ishii’s backstory, which I thought was really fascinating. Because when I was 13 I used to think The Bride was a good guy, but watching this again none of them really are, “good guys”, there is just levels of who is a worse person. Anyway, I also thought of the Lego Batman, “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts.” when The Bride battles and slaughters the other members at the Tokyo area (sorry I don’t really know what it’s called).
Hate him or love him (I personally dislike the character of Tarrintino), you have to admit that this is one of his best works. While I don’t remember much about the second one, this is sheer perfection. The film goes from hilarious to terrifying in seconds. It pumps your blood full of adrenaline during the fight scenes and makes you feel like you’re watching a cinematic kung fu fight. I loved the martial arts vibe of the film too, whether it was the chaotic and epic opening fight. Or the Tokyo showdown when the film goes black and white, while you watch The Bride massacre the people so flawlessly. The Bride is so badass it’s quite satisfying watching her get revenge.
As for genre bending the film is primarily very martial artsy at points. However I think the hospital scene, opening scene and quite a few others are seriously harrowing and tragic to watch. It makes for a much more enjoyable experience seeing her defeat the people who brutalised her. Una Thurman does an incredible job in this film too. She plays The Bride so well it’s like you wouldn’t want to meet her because you’d think she’d slice you in half. Not to mention her disturbing reaction to the “miscarriage”, as we who have seen the film know the girl survived which was such a cliffhanger. I’ll get to that in a moment. But Thurman pulls off such a great performance and is one of the key takeaways from this, also Lucy Liu is fucking impeccable too!
For the cliffhanger, it has me wanting to see the second film. I’ll probably leave it a couple hours or not. I don’t know, it’s currently 4:12 in the morning for me as I’m dying in my heat in the uk. If any uk people out there are suffering right now, you have my condolences. Tarrintino does a great job and keeping you hooked on his bait (being the film) and before you get up to leave, he leaves you with the unbelievable cliffhanger to continue the story. You leave shocked, flabbergasted and hungry for more.
Edit: I haven’t completed his films logged or seen, I haven’t seen The Hateful Eight!
